Willock Close Wood

A proper woodland walk through Lancashire countryside, Willock Close Wood sits just outside Carnforth and delivers exactly what you'd want from a forest - tall trees, quiet trails, and the kind of peace that makes you remember why you came north in the first place. The wood itself isn't vast, so you're looking at a couple of hours maximum to work your way through, but it's well worth the detour if you're staying at one of the nearby glamping spots like Hidden Hills or Primrose.

The paths are reasonably maintained and fairly level, which means families with kids won't struggle, though there's nothing here to actively entertain small ones for more than an hour. It's the sort of place where you go to breathe, to get away from the campsite for a morning, to remember what actual quiet sounds like. Dog walkers will find it dog-friendly, and serious hikers can string it together with other walks in the area.

There's no visitor centre, no cafe, no admission charge as far as I can tell - just you, the trees, and whatever weather Lancashire throws at you that day. Best visited in spring or autumn when the undergrowth isn't quite so thick and the light filters through properly. Summer can feel a bit cramped between the leaves.

If you're based at Crook O'Lune Holiday Park or any of the glamping pods nearby, this makes a solid morning outing before heading into Carnforth proper for lunch. Nothing spectacular, but good honest woodland that does exactly what it says on the tin.
