Yarn Hill

Yarn Hill sits just outside Banbury in Oxfordshire - nothing dramatic, but a proper little viewpoint if you're rambling through the area. It's basically an elevated spot that gives you a fair panorama across the Oxfordshire countryside. On a clear day you can pick out the rolling hills and patchwork fields stretching out in most directions, though it's hardly the Lake District.

The walk up is gentle enough for families with older kids, though younger ones might find it a bit of a plod if there's nothing much to do at the top beyond standing around looking at the view. Most people allow 20 minutes to get up there, grab a few photos, and head back down. It works best as part of a larger walk rather than a standalone trip - pair it with a stomp across the surrounding footpaths and you've got yourself a decent afternoon out.

Being free and accessible with no formal opening hours makes it ideal if you're camping nearby. Crofts Barn Campsite is barely a mile away, and several other sites - Shire Camping, Kirby Farm, Mount Farm Park - sit within easy striking distance. It's the sort of place that doesn't demand much planning or expense. Come early morning if you want the clearest views, and time your visit for decent weather. The summit isn't much of a destination on its own, but it's worth knowing about if you're spending a few nights camping in the area and want a bit of elevation and fresh air without the serious hiking.
