Abereiddi Tower

The tower stands on the coast near Haverfordwest like a stubby finger pointing at the Irish Sea. Built in the 19th century as a folly - one man's eccentric monument to himself - it's become one of Pembrokeshire's quirkiest landmarks, and honestly, it's worth the coastal walk to see it.

You can't go inside, but that's rather the point. It's the sort of place where you arrive, take a photo, sit on the clifftop for twenty minutes, and feel properly connected to the Welsh coastline without the crowds you'd get at better-known spots. The views stretch across to the Preseli Hills inland, and on clear days you can see further than seems reasonable. Kids will find it amusing for about ten minutes - it's small, it's odd, it has zero facilities - then they'll want to explore the rocks and shore instead, which is fair enough.

Allow an hour including the walk down from the nearest access point. Free to view, obviously. The real value here is as part of a broader coastal ramble rather than a destination in itself. If you're camping at Pembrokeshire Meadows or one of the coastal sites within a few miles, add it to a morning's route-planning. Go when the tide's out if you fancy scrambling about the beach below. Winter brings fewer tourists, though the wind can be fierce enough to knock you sideways.
