Aberlleiniog Woodland

Walking into Aberlleiniog Woodland feels like stepping back from the coast - which makes sense, since it's just inland from Beaumaris on Anglesey. This isn't a manicured country estate forest. It's proper woodland, the sort where you can actually lose the path if you're not paying attention, with decent mature trees and enough undergrowth to feel genuinely wild.

The trails wind through mixed woodland, and there's enough elevation change to keep things interesting without being exhausting. On a clear day you get decent views across towards the Menai Strait. It's the kind of place where kids will either love hunting for stick castles or get bored after thirty minutes - depends entirely on the child. Walkers will appreciate the peaceful trails, though it's not challenging enough to dominate a day.

There's no visitor centre or facilities that I could find, so bring a packed lunch if you're stopping long. Parking is limited and not particularly obvious, which paradoxically keeps it quieter than the National Trust spots nearby. Free to enter, obviously.

If you're based at Plas Yn Llangoed just half a mile away - which has brilliant reviews - this is genuinely worth popping to between beach days. It's close enough to add without hassle, far enough away to feel like an actual woodland escape rather than a park walk. Less dramatic than Snowdonia, but properly restorative for a couple of hours.
