All Saints Church

The stone tower of All Saints rises above Bakewell's roofline with the kind of quiet authority you don't see much anymore. It's a proper medieval church, the sort that's been there so long it's basically part of the landscape rather than something people gawp at. Inside, the chancel screen and some of the monuments are genuinely worth your time if you care about that era of English craftsmanship.

This is really one for the architecture and history crowd rather than casual strollers. The interior has character - you can actually feel the centuries in the stonework - but it's not a showstopper like some of the bigger Peak District churches. Allow yourself twenty minutes to half an hour if you're stopping by, longer if you're into medieval decoration and tomb inscriptions.

The location is the main draw. Pop in while you're wandering Bakewell town centre itself, which is pleasant enough, or as part of a wider ramble through the valley. From the camping and glamping spots nearby - Peak Pods is less than a mile away, or you could base yourself at Lathkill Wild Campsite or Barn Farm a bit further out - it's an easy ten-minute walk into town. Pair it with a stroll along the River Wye or over to Haddon Hall if you've got half a day, but don't go out of your way to visit the church alone. It's an add-on to a proper Peak District holiday, not the reason you'd come to the area.
