Finding this slice of Ceredigion woodland requires a bit of local knowledge and a willingness to explore beyond the obvious coastal attractions. Allt Cefn-maes-llan spreads across rolling hills just inland from Llanarth, offering proper Welsh forest walking without the crowds that descend on better-known spots along the coast.

The terrain here is what you'd expect from this part of West Wales - mixed woodland with decent gradients that'll get your heart rate up but won't require mountaineering skills. Families with older children who can manage a proper walk will find it rewarding, though it's probably not one for pushchairs or very young legs. The paths can get muddy after rain, so decent walking boots are essential.

Dog walkers particularly rate this area, as there's plenty of space for four-legged friends to explore safely away from roads. The forest feels properly wild in places, with that satisfying sense of having stepped away from holiday park life for a few hours.
