An Guirean isn't a difficult scramble, but it's steep enough to earn respect. This Perthshire peak sits just north of Aberfeldy, and on a clear day the views across the Tay Valley stretch for miles - you can pick out Ben Lawers and the broader sweep of the Highlands. The climb takes a decent few hours depending on your fitness and route choice, but the height rewards effort without demanding serious mountaineering kit.

Most people working their way up are solo walkers or small groups chasing Munro ticking rather than families - this isn't a gentle afternoon stroll. That said, if you're reasonably fit and comfortable with a steep path, it's absolutely doable. Allow a solid half-day once you park up, longer if you're taking photos and pausing for breath.

What makes it work as part of a Perthshire holiday is proximity. Base yourself at one of the caravan parks around Aberfeldy - Faskally Woods or Milton Of Fonab give you proper access to this part of the region - and you can knock An Guirean off as a morning mission before exploring Aberfeldy itself or heading into the broader Highland landscape. The walk clears your head fast. Weather matters here: midges are a genuine problem in summer, so go early or late, and poor visibility turns the experience from decent to dull real quick.
