Creag an Fhithich

The walk up Creag an Fhithich rewards you with proper Highland views across Perthshire without the scramble you'd face on some of the bigger peaks nearby. It's a straightforward hill walk rather than a technical climb - the kind of outing that takes two to three hours round trip and leaves you feeling like you've actually done something, but not absolutely knackered.

The summit sits at 2,243 feet, and from up there you can see across the Tay Valley towards the Ben Lawers range. On a clear day it's genuinely impressive. The walk itself is well-trodden and cairn-marked, though the moorland approach means you'll want decent boots when it's wet - which, let's be honest, is most of the time in these parts.

This one works brilliantly if you're based at one of the caravan parks around Aberfeldy - Faskally Woods, Grandtully Station, or Milton Of Fonab are all within striking distance. It's the sort of walk that suits families with older children and regular hill walkers after a quick hit, rather than serious trekkers after an all-day expedition. The views are worth the effort, though I'd avoid it in driving rain - the descent gets sketchy and you'll see nothing anyway.

About forty minutes' drive from Aberfeldy town if you're starting from the caravan parks. Free access, obviously. Go early in the day for the best light and a parking spot.
