Ann Beddard’s Wood

The woodland walk through Ann Beddard's Wood, just outside Kendal, is proper Lake District through and through - ancient trees, dappled light filtering through the canopy, and enough moss on the rocks to make you feel like you've stepped back centuries. It's the sort of place that doesn't announce itself loudly, which is exactly why it works so well.

The walk itself takes you through mixed woodland with streams and clearings. You're not trudging uphill endlessly - it's manageable for families with reasonably competent walkers, though younger children might need a hand over the rougher bits. The paths aren't manicured; they're proper forest floor underfoot, which some will love and others will find a touch muddy depending on the weather.
