Baldock's museum is one of those small-town affairs that rewards a proper look round if you care about local history. You'll find it right in the heart of town, and it's genuinely free to wander through - no surprises with the till on the way out. The collection focuses on what made Baldock tick over the centuries: medieval trade, coaching inn days, and the bits of everyday life that don't usually make it into the history books.

It's not a sprawling place - you can do it in an hour, maybe ninety minutes if you read everything. Families with younger kids might find it a bit text-heavy, but anyone with a genuine interest in how market towns evolved will get something out of it. The staff are usually knowledgeable locals, which makes a real difference when you want to understand the context of what you're looking at.

The museum works well as a rainy-day diversion if you're based at one of the nearby caravan sites like Radwell Lake or Jacks Hill - both within a mile or so.
