Weston Hills Nature Reserve

The chalk grassland here rolls gently across what feels like proper countryside, though you're only a stone's throw from Baldock. Weston Hills is one of those places that rewards a slow walk rather than a rushed visit - the kind of spot where you notice things: skylarks climbing vertically, the specific yellow of bird's-foot trefoil, the way the turf feels springy underfoot.

It's a nature reserve, so don't expect facilities or marked trails in the conventional sense. What you get instead is open grassland with scattered scrub and the kind of views that stretch towards the Hertfordshire horizon. Botanists will have a field day here - the wildflowers are genuinely excellent in spring and early summer.
