Ball Hill

Ball Hill rises above Bridgwater like an afterthought - a modest mound that doesn't announce itself. You won't find crowds here, which is either its charm or its limitation depending on what you're after.

The walk up takes roughly twenty minutes from the bottom, and the views across the Somerset Levels justify the leg work. On a clear day you can see across flatter land than seems reasonable - it's the sort of perspective that makes you understand why someone bothered to climb it in the first place. The summit itself is unremarkable: a patch of grass, a few trees, and the satisfaction of having reached the highest point for miles.

This works best for walkers who don't need a destination to be Instagram-ready, or families with kids old enough to manage a gentle incline without complaining for the full duration. An hour here is plenty. You could pair it with The Hideout, barely half a mile away, for a straightforward walking base camp, or use it as a break during a longer explore of the Levels around Thornhills or Wall Eden Farm.

There's no visitor infrastructure - no cafe, no car park with signs. You find your own way up from town. It's free, obviously, because there's nothing to charge for. Worth the detour if you're in the area and fancy some exercise with a view; skip it if you're expecting something dramatic.
