Beinn Lora

Two hours of proper uphill walking gets you to the 1,010-foot summit of this overlooked peak above Benderloch. The path starts steep and stays that way, winding through woodland before opening onto heather-clad slopes with increasingly spectacular views across Loch Linnhe.

From the top, you'll understand why locals rate this hill so highly. The panorama takes in Ben Nevis to the northeast, the Isle of Mull across the Sound, and the distinctive outline of Ben Cruachan dominating the eastern horizon. On clear days, you can pick out Oban's harbour far below.

Walkers with decent fitness will find this a rewarding half-day expedition, though families with young children might struggle with the relentless gradient. The route isn't technically difficult, just demanding on the legs. Spring and early summer offer the best conditions, when the weather's more settled and daylight hours longer.

This makes a cracking addition to a week based at one of the caravan parks around Benderloch. North Ledaig sits practically at the hill's base, while Tralee Bay Holidays offers stunning coastal views to complement your mountain conquest. After a morning on Beinn Lora, you'll appreciate having a comfortable base nearby rather than driving back to Oban.
