Belvide Bird Reserve

The reservoir at Belvide sits quietly between Brewood and the wider Staffordshire countryside, and if you're staying at Oakland Holiday Park just down the road, it's worth a morning walk to see what's about. The main draw here is the birdwatching - the water attracts winter visitors and passage migrants depending on when you visit, which means you might spot wildfowl and waders that don't show up in many other places round here.

There's a decent perimeter path that takes you round the water's edge, giving decent sightlines across the reserve. It's not a massive undertaking - you can do it in an hour or so without rushing - which makes it handy if you've got young kids in tow but don't want to commit to a full day's walking. Binoculars are essential if you're serious about seeing anything beyond the obvious mallards and coots.

Birdwatchers will absolutely get the most from this spot, particularly in winter months when the visiting populations peak. Casual walkers might find it a bit flat and samey unless you're genuinely keen on spotting birds. The paths can be muddy after rain, so proper boots matter.

Being so close to Oakland Holiday Park means it's ideal for breaking up a couple of quiet days, or pairing with the slightly further High Onn Holiday Park if you're after a longer stay. Free access as far as we can tell, though do check locally before heading out.
