Black Firs

Dense Scots pines stretch overhead in this quiet corner of Cheshire woodland, just a short drive from Tarporley. Black Firs feels properly remote despite being close to several holiday parks around Delamere - the sort of place where you might spot a red squirrel if you're lucky.

Walking here is straightforward enough, with well-worn paths threading between the trees. The forest floor stays fairly dry underfoot, even after rain, thanks to that thick carpet of pine needles. It's not the most spectacular woodland in the area, but there's something calming about the way the light filters through those dark branches.

Families will find it manageable for shorter walks, though older kids might get a bit restless after an hour or so - there's no playground or obvious focal point beyond the trees themselves. Dog walkers seem to love it, and you'll often have sections of path completely to yourself.

From holiday parks like Delamere Forest Camping and Caravanning Club Site or Wild Shore Delamere, it makes for a decent morning out before heading to the bigger attractions around Delamere Forest proper. Worth combining with a trip into Tarporley for lunch afterwards rather than making it your main destination for the day.
