Boc Beag

A proper hill walk rather than a casual stroll, Boc Beag rises out of the Highland landscape just a few miles from Kyle with views that absolutely justify the effort. The summit's modest height - it's no Ben Nevis - makes it manageable for reasonably fit walkers, though the path itself isn't babied. You're looking at roughly two to three hours up and back depending on your pace and the weather, which in this part of Scotland can turn on a sixpence.

The real draw is the perspective you get from the top. On a clear day - and yes, that's a gamble up here - you're treated to views across the surrounding glens and toward the coastal plains. It's the sort of walk that appeals to hillwalkers who want a proper challenge without needing technical gear or mountain experience. Families with teenagers keen on outdoor activity will find it rewarding, though younger kids might find the slog a bit much.

If you're based at either Glenshiel Campsite or Reraig Caravan & Camping Skye - both excellent spots for a Highland park holiday - Boc Beag makes for a brilliant half or full day out. The proximity to Kyle means you're not spending your morning just getting there. Go early, check the weather forecast beforehand, and bring proper walking boots. The ground can be boggy and the exposure real once you're up there. Free, obviously, and frankly one of the better ways to stretch your legs if you're staying in the area.
