Bromyard Pool

Bromyard Pool sits just outside the market town of Bromyard, a proper little water feature that locals have always known about but visitors often miss entirely. It's a modest lake - nothing that'll take your breath away - but on a decent day it's a decent spot for a quiet walk or a bit of birdwatching. The water's ringed by trees and there's enough footpath to give you a circuit without breaking a sweat.

This is more of an add-on than a destination in itself. You're not driving across the county for it, but if you're staying at one of the nearby parks - The Shires Park is only about four miles away, Wigley Orchard and Kingfisher Meadow Camping are both within six miles - then a morning stroll here breaks up the day nicely. Families with restless kids might manage an hour here before needing something with more going on. Walkers and bird spotters will find it more rewarding, especially early morning when things are quieter.

The pool works well as part of a broader wander around Bromyard itself. The town's got a decent high street and some decent pubs if you fancy stopping for lunch. Admission appears to be free, which is the only reason to recommend it really - no cost, no fuss, just a straightforward country walk. Allow an hour to circuit it without hurrying. Spring and autumn are probably best; summer gets a bit warm and you'll wish there was more shade.
