Standing at 175 metres above sea level, this modest hill above Anstruther delivers views that punch well above its weight. The climb from the village takes about 45 minutes on a clear path through farmland and scattered woodland, gaining height steadily without being too punishing for most walkers. From the summit, the East Neuk coastline stretches out below like a map, with the Bass Rock and May Island dotting the Firth of Forth.

Families with older children will manage the ascent easily enough, though toddlers might struggle with the distance rather than the gradient. The real reward comes at the top - on clear days you can see right across to the Lothian coast and even catch glimpses of Edinburgh's skyline. Dog walkers love this route as there's plenty of space to roam once you reach the open moorland near the summit.

Timing matters here. Early morning or late afternoon light transforms the coastal views, while midday sun can leave everything looking a bit washed out. The hill can be combined nicely with a trip into Anstruther for fish and chips afterwards - a proper Scottish day out. From holiday parks like St Monans or Silverdyke, it's an easy drive to the starting point, making it a decent half-day excursion when the weather's playing ball.
