Cavern Cascade

The walk down to Cavern Cascade takes you through proper Welsh woodland - the kind where moss grows thick on everything and the light filters green through the canopy. It's a short pull from Aberystwyth, and worth the detour if you're after something a bit different from the usual coastal routine.

The cascade itself is a waterfall that emerges from a small cave, which is what gives the place its name. Water tumbles out of the rock face and drops into a pool below - it's intimate rather than dramatic, the sort of spot that feels like your own discovery even when you're not the only person there. The cave opening is low and damp, but you can poke your head in for a look without needing any special kit.

Families with young walkers will manage it fine; the path isn't technically difficult, though it's muddy in places and you'll need decent shoes. Allow 45 minutes there and back, depending on how long you linger. It's the kind of place you visit as part of a broader Ceredigion wander rather than a destination in itself - combine it with time at one of the nearby parks like Woodlands Caravan Park or Brynllwyd Glamping, both just 3.4 miles away.

Go after rain when the water's flowing properly. In dry spells it can feel a bit underwhelming. Best visited mid-week if you can manage it - weekends pull more people to the spot.
