Cheadle Park Wood

Ancient oak and beech trees tower overhead in this proper woodland just outside Stoke-on-Trent, where well-maintained paths wind through dense canopy that feels miles from the Potteries. The mix of mature trees creates lovely dappled light, especially during autumn when the leaf carpet crunches underfoot.

Dog walkers absolutely love this place - you'll spot plenty of locals exercising their pets along the main circular route. Kids enjoy the natural playground of fallen logs and clearings, though there's no playground equipment or facilities to speak of. The paths are mostly firm underfoot, making pushchairs manageable on the main routes.

Walkers can easily spend an hour here on a gentle stroll, or stretch it to two hours if you explore the smaller side paths that branch off into quieter sections. Early morning visits are particularly rewarding when you might spot deer browsing near the woodland edges.

This woodland works well as a peaceful break if you're staying at one of the nearby sites like Hales Hall or Springfields Countryside parks. It's the sort of place that's brilliant for clearing your head after a day at Alton Towers, which isn't far away. Free parking makes it an easy stop, though don't expect visitor centres or cafes - just honest woodland walking at its best.
