Clachertyfarlie Knowes

The walk up Clachertyfarlie Knowes isn't long, but it's proper steep in places - the kind of climb that'll have your calves burning before you've gone half a mile. You're looking at maybe an hour from the car park, depending on fitness and how many times you stop to catch your breath. The summit itself sits around 300 metres, offering decent views across the Stirling area toward the Lowlands. On a clear day you can pick out landmarks that anchor you to the landscape, which beats staring at a wall of cloud.

It's best suited to walkers after a proper leg-stretch rather than casual strollers - the terrain demands proper boots and a bit of determination. Families with older kids who don't mind a genuine hike will get something out of it, but this isn't the place for toddlers or anyone expecting an easy ramble. Allow a couple of hours including the descent and a breather at the top.

The climb itself is the main event here - there's no tea room or heritage centre waiting at the summit, so come prepared. Being close to Glasgow means you're roughly 30 miles south, making this a decent half-day mission if you're based in the city. The nearby glamping options - Endrick Escape and Duncan Family Farms are both within striking distance - mean you can pair this with a proper Lowlands break without being chained to a caravan park. Worth doing if you're in the area and the weather's on side. Skip it if rain's threatening - the climb gets muddy and visibility vanishes fast.
