Coed Garth-fach

The woodland at Coed Garth-fach spreads across a decent chunk of Mid Wales countryside just outside Welshpool, offering proper forest walking without the crowds you'd find elsewhere in Powys. It's the sort of place where you can actually hear yourself think - dense tree cover, good paths, and the kind of quiet that comes from being slightly off the main tourist circuit.

This works best for walkers who want a straightforward woodland ramble rather than dramatic views or historical significance. The trees do their job well enough: shade in summer, interesting enough in autumn when the colours shift. You're looking at anything from a short potter to a couple of hours depending on how deep you want to go into the forest. There are paths marked through here, though nothing that'll challenge experienced hikers.

Families with younger kids will find it manageable, though it's not set up as a destination attraction with visitor facilities or play areas. Bring a packed lunch if you're planning a half-day outing. The forest works perfectly as a morning or afternoon slot alongside staying at one of the nearby glamping spots - Oaklands Glamping or The Secret Yurts are within a few miles, as is Cae Nant Glamping. If you're based at any of these, this becomes a genuinely convenient walk rather than a special trip.
