Coosebean Woodland

A few miles outside Truro sits Coosebean Woodland, a proper slice of Cornish nature that doesn't get the crowds you'd find at some of the county's bigger reserves. It's woodland, essentially - the sort of place where you go to walk, listen to birdsong, and remember why you came to Cornwall in the first place rather than staying on the coast.

The trails wind through mature trees with the kind of quietness that feels genuinely hard to find these days. Walkers will appreciate it more than most; families with young children might find it a bit samey after half an hour, though if your kids are the type who like poking about in leaf litter and spotting wildlife, they'll be happy enough. Spring and early summer are the obvious times to visit when the understory comes alive.

It's free to access, which is always welcome. There's no visitor centre or facilities to speak of, so come prepared - bring water, wear decent shoes given the ground can be boggy, and know what you're after before you arrive. This isn't a destination attraction; it's the sort of place you slot into a broader day exploring the area around Truro. If you're staying at one of the nearby parks - Carnon Downs is closest at just three miles - it's a perfectly decent morning out before heading elsewhere. Trevarth Holiday Park and Wrinklers Wood are also within easy striking distance if you want something to do between longer trips.
