Daventry Museum

Daventry Museum sits bang in the middle of the market town, housed in a Georgian building that's as much part of the story as what's inside. You'll find the usual local history fare - Roman pottery, medieval artefacts, bits of old Daventry life - but it's the town's industrial past that genuinely grabs you. This place thrived on framework knitting and shoe manufacturing, and the museum does a decent job showing how ordinary people made their living here.

The collection isn't vast, so budget an hour, maybe ninety minutes if you're reading everything. Admission is free, which removes the guilt of wandering through in under an hour if it's not your thing. School holidays bring families in, though kids under ten might lose interest once they've ticked the interactive bits.

What works best is combining this with a walk around Daventry itself - proper market town stuff, a decent high street, and you're close enough to the canal network if you fancy stretching your legs. The nearby glamping and camping spots at Hideaway Wood Farm and EWE Glamping (both under three miles away) make this a natural stop if you're based at one of them. Whitefeather Campsite's even closer at 2.6 miles.

Worth the detour if you're already in Northamptonshire, but don't rearrange your holiday around it. The real appeal is getting a feel for how the town ticked rather than any knockout exhibits.
