Death's Head Hole

The limestone cave sits just outside Carnforth, accessed via a walk through proper moorland that takes about 20 minutes from the nearest car park. Once you reach the entrance, the gaping mouth of the cave announces itself rather dramatically - the name refers to a skull found here in the 1880s, which has lent the place its wonderfully gothic reputation ever since.

Inside, the cave opens into a chamber tall enough to stand upright in, with natural light filtering through the entrance.
