About Dudwell Mountain

Rising to 210 metres above the Pembrokeshire coast, this modest peak offers proper views across St Brides Bay without the crowds you'll find at the more famous coastal spots. I climbed it on a clear September morning and could see right across to Skomer Island and the Irish Sea beyond - well worth the hour's walk from the road.

The path isn't particularly well marked, which means serious walkers will enjoy the navigation challenge while families with young children might find it a bit much. There's no proper car park either, just roadside parking near the base, so get there early in summer. The terrain is typical Pembrokeshire moorland - tussocky grass, scattered rocks, and the odd boggy patch after rain.

From the summit cairn, you get a cracking view of the entire Pembrokeshire coast path snaking along the cliffs below. On a good day, you can pick out Ramsey Island to the north and the Preseli Hills inland. The descent takes about 45 minutes if you're steady on your feet.

For families staying at nearby parks like Newgale Coast or Broad Haven, it makes a decent half-day adventure combined with a beach visit afterwards. Just don't expect mountain rescue signs or fancy waymarkers - this is proper hill walking in miniature, about 15 minutes from Haverfordwest.
