Flamish Chimney

Standing about six feet high on the coastal path near Tenby, this weathered limestone stack might look like just another bit of old stonework to the casual walker. But the Flamish Chimney tells a proper tale of Pembrokeshire's industrial past - it's actually the remains of a 19th-century lime kiln, one of many that once dotted this coastline.

History enthusiasts will appreciate the engineering behind it. Limestone quarried locally was burned here to produce lime for building mortar and agricultural purposes. The chimney itself is all that's left standing, but you can still make out the circular kiln base if you look carefully.

Families with older children might find it worth a brief stop during a coastal walk, though there's not much to hold younger ones' attention for long. It's free to visit - just park up in Tenby and follow the Wales Coast Path for about twenty minutes.

Best combined with exploring Tenby's medieval walls and harbour rather than making a special trip. The coastal scenery along this stretch is lovely, mind you. If you're staying at one of the nearby sites like Cross Park Holiday Village or Masterland Farm, it makes for a decent morning's ramble before the beaches get busy.
