Norchard Beacon

Walking up through farmland and gorse-covered slopes, you'll find Norchard Beacon offers one of the finest coastal panoramas in Pembrokeshire - and that's saying something in this spectacular corner of Wales. The summit gives you sweeping views across Carmarthen Bay, with Tenby's harbour and beaches spread out below like a Victorian postcard.

Families with older children will appreciate the relatively gentle climb, though little ones might struggle with the uneven terrain and brambles. The beacon itself is modest - no dramatic rocky outcrop here - but the 360-degree views more than compensate. On clear days you can spot the Gower Peninsula across the water.

Coming from holiday parks around Tenby like Haven Kiln Park or Saltern Holiday Park, it's a proper contrast to the beach scene. Allow two hours for the round trip, including time to catch your breath at the top. Early morning visits reward you with the best light for photography and fewer crowds on the footpaths.

The walk starts from minor roads south of Tenby, though parking is limited to roadside spots. It's free to access, naturally, being open countryside. Weather can change quickly on these exposed hilltops, so pack layers even on sunny days. Worth combining with a trip to nearby Caldey Island or Tenby's medieval streets for a full day out.
