Rising to 1,168 feet above Church Stretton, this lesser-known peak offers one of the finest views in the Shropshire Hills without the crowds that swarm Caer Caradoc. The climb follows a clear path through bracken and heather, taking about 45 minutes from the nearest parking spot.

Families with older children will manage this well - it's not technically difficult, just a steady upward slog. Dog walkers love it here since the open moorland gives their pets proper freedom to roam. From the summit, you can see across to the Welsh mountains on clear days, with the patchwork of Shropshire's farming valleys spread below.

What makes Gogbatch special is its position at the southern end of the Long Mynd ridge. You're walking on some of the oldest rocks in England, formed over 500 million years ago. The views north towards the main ridge are particularly striking in late afternoon light.

Allow two hours for the round trip if you're taking your time. Spring brings bilberry flowers, while autumn turns the bracken golden - both lovely seasons for a visit. The path can be boggy after rain, so proper walking boots are essential.
