Griffin's Covert

A proper woodland walk rather than a destination in itself, Griffin's Covert sits just outside Lincoln and does what English forests do best - offers a quiet break from the market town noise. The trees are dense enough that you lose sight of the surrounding farmland within minutes, which is precisely the appeal.

It's the sort of place walkers and dog owners use regularly, not somewhere you'd build a holiday around, but absolutely worth an hour if you're staying nearby. The paths are straightforward, mostly level, and the woodland isn't so vast you can get properly lost. Bring wellies if it's been wet - it gets boggy in places. There's a decent canopy which keeps things cool on warm days, and the undergrowth is thick enough that you feel properly removed from civilization even when you're really just on the edge of town.

Historically, Lincolnshire's woodlands were common hunting grounds, and this one carries that weight lightly - no grand monuments or visitor infrastructure, just trees and quiet. If you're glamping at Spire View Meadow nearby, it's an easy detour for an early morning stretch before breakfast. Families with young walkers will find it manageable, though there's nothing here to keep them entertained beyond the walk itself - no water features, no adventure play, no cafe.

Free to access, open to the public, and requires no planning beyond checking the weather. Don't expect drama or vistas. Expect solitude and a decent canopy. That's what you get.
