Gummer's How Plantation

The walk up Gummer's How takes about twenty minutes from the car park, and it's genuinely worth the leg work. This plantation sits on a modest fell near Ulverston, but the views across Morecambe Bay and down to Windermere are proper impressive - especially on a clear day when you can pick out the fells beyond.

It's a forested walk through larch and spruce, so the path winds through dappled shade. You'll spot the odd bench tucked into clearings where people stop to catch their breath or just sit with a coffee. If you're based at Hill of Oaks or Park Cliffe, both just over a mile away, this makes a solid morning outing before heading down to Windermere proper.
