About The Heights
The walk itself takes about an hour and a half depending on your pace and fitness. You'll climb through fell moorland with decent paths underfoot, nothing technical. On a clear day you can see across to the Lake District fells and right out to the Bay. Bring binoculars if you're into spotting wildlife - there's usually a decent birds of prey presence up here.
It's the sort of walk that works brilliantly for families with older kids or anyone wanting a half-day outing rather than a full day's expedition. Younger children might find the climb a bit repetitive. Start early if you can - the views are better before clouds roll in, and you'll have the fell mostly to yourself.
If you're staying at one of the caravan parks dotted round here - Hill of Oaks is barely a mile and a half away, and Park Cliffe sits pretty much on the doorstep - this makes an ideal morning walk before heading to Windermere or exploring the southern Lake District proper. Free to access, obviously. Decent boots recommended, and check the weather before you head out. It can turn on you quickly up there.
