Gwrych Castle

You'll spot Gwrych Castle long before you reach it - a Gothic fantasy perched on the hillside above Abergele, impossibly theatrical against the North Wales sky. The 19th-century backstory is fascinating, but if you're not interested in Victorian architecture and eccentric landowners, you'll probably spend forty minutes here rather than a full afternoon. Families with younger kids might find it a bit sombre - there's limited interactive stuff, and running about indoors isn't really encouraged.
