About Hagworm Hill

An Iron Age fort sits quietly on Hagworm Hill, a few miles inland from Scarborough, and honestly it's the sort of place that rewards the effort if you're into ancient settlement patterns but won't blow your mind visually. The earthworks are still there - you can trace the defensive ditches and ramparts that would have protected whoever lived here two thousand years ago - but there's no interpretation board, no visitor centre, no gift shop. Just you, the hillside, and your own imagination filling in the blanks.

This is purely for the archaeology enthusiasts and anyone with an interest in how people fortified their homes in pre-Roman Britain. Kids will likely get bored after twenty minutes unless you're actively telling them stories about Roman invasions and tribal conflicts. The walk itself is pleasant enough, though, and the views across North Yorkshire farmland are decent on a clear day.

If you're camped at one of the nearby sites - Prospect House Farm Glamping or Parkdean Resorts at Cayton Bay are the closest options - it makes sense as a morning expedition before heading to Scarborough proper for lunch and the seaside. Allow an hour maximum for the site itself. There's no entrance fee that we can find, and there are no set opening hours because it's just open land. Go midweek if you can; weekends bring walkers who've clearly just arrived with a postcode and zero expectations.
