It's a modest lake - nothing like the grand reservoirs you might find further north - but there's something genuinely peaceful about it that makes the journey worthwhile. The mere sits in relatively open countryside, and you can walk the perimeter path without too much fuss, which takes around an hour depending on your pace and how often you stop to look about.

This is proper walking territory rather than a spectacle. Bring binoculars if you're into birds - the lake attracts waterfowl year-round, and autumn migration brings decent numbers.
