The railway viaduct that spans the valley here is proper Victorian engineering - all red brick arches and confident lines cutting across the Derbyshire landscape. You get to it on foot, and the walk itself is straightforward enough, bringing you out onto a viewpoint where you can stand and actually appreciate the scale of the thing. It's the sort of spot where you realise how much effort Victorians put into moving trains around, which sounds dull but genuinely isn't when you're standing in front of it.

Walkers will get the most from this. It's not a sit-down-and-linger kind of place - more a proper vantage point where you clock the engineering, take a few photos, and move on. Kids might find it interesting for ten minutes, though it's not going to hold their attention for long unless they're already into railways or industrial history. The real charm is in the walk itself and the surrounding countryside rather than the viewpoint alone.

It's free and there's no formal opening hours, which is exactly how these things should be. Allow 20 minutes or so if you're just after the view, longer if you fancy exploring the wider walking routes around Bakewell. This is the kind of stop that works brilliantly as part of a wider park holiday in the area - Dale Farm and Greenhills are both within a mile, so you could easily slot it into a morning walk before heading back for lunch. The Peak District is genuinely brilliant for this sort of thing: small, no-nonsense viewpoints that reward a bit of leg work.
