Henley Nap

Two miles south of Shrewsbury, this modest hill offers proper views across the Shropshire countryside without the crowds you'll find on the more famous peaks. The walk up takes about 20 minutes from the nearest car park - not exactly challenging, but steep enough to get your heart going.

Families with older children will enjoy the scramble to the summit, though toddlers might struggle with the rocky sections near the top. The panoramic views stretch across to the Welsh hills on clear days, making it well worth the effort. Dog walkers love this spot too - plenty of space to let them off the lead.

Staying at one of the nearby camping spots like Mountain Edge Shropshire or Eastridge Glamping puts you within easy reach for an early morning hike. The peak works brilliantly as part of a longer walking route, linking up with footpaths that wind back towards Shrewsbury or deeper into the countryside. Allow two hours for the round trip if you want time to appreciate the views properly.
