High Ball

High Ball is a straightforward viewpoint in Surrey that does exactly what it says on the tin - gives you height and a decent vista across the South East. It's the sort of spot locals know about and visitors stumble across by accident, which is probably for the best. Nothing fancy, no cafe, no facilities to speak of. Just elevation and open air.

The actual views sweep across Surrey's rolling landscape, which on a clear day gives you proper perspective on how green this part of England still is. On a grey day - so most days, really - it's pleasant enough but nothing that'll make you linger for hours. Walkers love it because it's accessible and breaks up a longer trek nicely. If you're staying at Chantry Wood Campsite right next door, it's basically your back garden. The climb isn't punishing, which makes it suitable for families and older walkers, though younger kids might find the payoff underwhelming if they're expecting something more theatrical.

No entrance fee that I'm aware of, no opening hours because it's just outdoors. Go whenever suits you, though sunrise and sunset are the obvious choices if you want that golden light. Don't expect to spend more than thirty minutes here unless you're stopping for a packed lunch. It works best as part of a wider walking route rather than a destination in itself. Pair it with a stay at one of the nearby parks and use it as a natural stopping point during countryside walks around the area.
