Hollin Wood

The walk into Hollin Wood from Carnforth takes you through proper Lancashire countryside before the trees close in around you. It's a modest woodland - nothing that'll take your breath away, but the kind of place where you can stretch your legs for an hour without overthinking it.

The paths wind through mixed woodland with decent enough tree cover if you're after shade on a warmer day. There's a stream running through parts of it, which kids tend to find more interesting than the trees themselves. The undergrowth gets quite dense in places, so it's not the easiest stroll if you're pushing a buggy, but anyone reasonably mobile will manage fine.

Walkers get more from this than most. If you're based at Hidden Hills Luxury Glamping nearby and fancy a break from the campsite without driving anywhere, this does the job. Expect twenty minutes to half an hour wandering about rather than a full morning outing. The woodland sits just on Carnforth's doorstep, so it works well as a quick leg-stretch between other activities in the area.

Timing-wise, spring brings bluebells if you catch it right, and autumn colours are decent. Summer can feel a bit green and samey if you're honest. It's free, naturally, and there's no real infrastructure - no car park facilities worth mentioning. Bring proper shoes; it gets muddy.
