Humble Pot

A proper cave rather than a tourist trap - Humble Pot sits in the limestone country south of Carnforth, where the rock face is riddled with underground passages. It's not a gaping maw you can walk straight into; instead, you're looking at a modest entrance that opens onto a decent descent into darkness and rock formations that wouldn't look out of place in a film set.

Caving around here tends to appeal to walkers with a bit of backbone rather than families after a quick afternoon out. The passage does go somewhere, but you'll need a torch at minimum and ideally a modicum of rock scrambling confidence. It's the sort of place where "just popping down" turns into an hour of genuine exploration, which is exactly why it's worth the detour if you're already in the area.

Combine it with walking the broader landscape around Carnforth - the limestone hills offer some excellent trails, and the cave becomes a proper destination rather than an afterthought.
