Kaims Country Park

Kaims Country Park sits just outside Bamburgh in Northumberland, and it's one of those places that creeps up on you. You're wandering through proper countryside - rolling fields, hedgerows, the works - and suddenly you've stumbled onto a decent spot for a walk without the crowds that swarm Bamburgh Castle itself. The park is straightforward: grassland and woodland paths that take you through rural North East terrain. Nothing flashy, but that's rather the point.

For families with young legs, it's a solid hour or two's activity. The ground is manageable, the views open up nicely, and there's enough space for kids to burn off energy without feeling herded. Walkers will appreciate the quiet - you won't be jostling with tourist hordes. History buffs might find the wider landscape interesting given the region's Roman and medieval significance, though Kaims itself isn't packed with dramatic structures.

Stay at one of the nearby sites - Bamburgh Under Canvas is closest at just over a mile, or Budle Bay Campsite if you want a bit more space. Use Kaims as your leg-stretcher between bigger attractions. It's the sort of park that works brilliantly as part of a wider Northumberland sweep, not a destination in itself. Straightforward, unpretentious, and honest value.
