Kennelhill Wood

The path into Kennelhill Wood narrows quickly, hemmed in by oak and beech that've been here longer than anyone cares to remember. It's a proper Cornish woodland - damp underfoot even when it hasn't rained, with moss coating the older trees like a green blanket. You won't find manicured trails or interpretation boards here. This is the sort of place you walk through, not at.

Walkers get the most from it, honestly. The wood sits just outside Launceston, close enough for an afternoon sortie but far enough to feel genuinely wild. It's the kind of spot that rewards you for turning up without expectations - dappled light through the canopy, the occasional glimpse of a stream, the sound of birds you can't identify. Kids might find it interesting for half an hour, then get restless; bring proper boots because the mud isn't optional.

There's no visitor centre, no café, no parking infrastructure that I could find - this is woodland as it comes. That's both its appeal and its limitation. It works brilliantly as part of a wider ramble around Launceston rather than a destination in itself. If you're staying at Trewithen Farm Glamping nearby, it's a natural morning walk before heading elsewhere. But don't expect signage, facilities, or the kind of polished experience you get at managed forest trails. Go for the authentic Cornish woodland experience, not for comfort.
