This ancient English oak sits in a fenced enclosure to protect its roots from the forest's free-roaming ponies and cattle, though you can get close enough to appreciate its impressive girth and battle-scarred bark.

Tree enthusiasts and families will find plenty to admire, though don't expect a lengthy visit - you're looking at 20 minutes tops unless you're particularly taken with dendrology. The surrounding Knightwood area offers decent walking trails if you fancy stretching your legs, and there's a car park nearby that makes access straightforward from Brockenhurst.
