Larch Plantation

The larch trees here grow tall and deliberate, their needles catching light in a way that feels almost deliberate. Larch Plantation sits just outside Lincoln and offers a proper woodland walk without the crowds you'd find at some of the bigger Lincolnshire nature spots. It's coniferous, quiet, and the kind of place where you can actually hear yourself think.

What you get is straightforward - a forest walk through planted woodland, the sort of place where the path is clear enough but you're genuinely surrounded by trees. The larches are deciduous conifers, so autumn here is particularly good; the needles turn gold before dropping, which sounds odd but looks brilliant. Spring's decent too if you're after that fresh green feeling.

Families with young children will find it manageable for an hour or so, though it's not the sort of spot with a visitor centre or facilities - bring what you need. Serious walkers and nature photographers get more from it. There's something satisfying about a conifer plantation once you stop expecting it to be wilderness; it's orderly, almost meditative.

The walk fits well with a base at Spire View Meadow - that glamping site's only six miles away - and Lincoln itself is close enough for a proper town day out. Free access, no booking needed as far as we can tell, though conditions underfoot can be muddy after rain. Allow an hour minimum, longer if you're the type who actually stops to look at trees rather than just walking past them.
