Linley Hill Dog Fields

Just outside Beverley, Linley Hill Dog Fields is exactly what it says on the tin - a proper off-lead space where dogs can burn off serious energy without a lead in sight. The fields themselves are open grassland, the sort of place where you'll see border collies tearing about like lunatics and elderly spaniels pottering along at their own pace. It's free, which is a bonus, and there's no faffing about with booking or opening hours - you just rock up when it suits you.

Who should go? Dog owners, plainly. Families with children who've got a bouncy pup at home will find it saves them a fortune in destroyed furniture. If you're staying at one of the caravan parks nearby - High Farm, Kingfisher Lakes, or Blue Rose Country Park are all within a few miles - this becomes genuinely useful for a quick morning run rather than a proper attraction. The walk itself isn't demanding, and most visits will take under an hour unless you're the type who likes to sit and watch the dogs socialise for a bit.

It's not a destination you'd plan a weekend around, but if you're doing the caravan thing in East Yorkshire and need to keep a dog happy, it's well worth knowing about. The fields are basic but functional, and Beverley itself has enough charm to make a proper day of it - the Minster is outstanding, and there's decent shopping if you're into that sort of thing.
