O Reservoir

Water and sky merge into one at O Reservoir, a proper working water supply that's become a decent spot for a walk near Driffield. You won't find much in the way of facilities or fanfare here - it's not a leisure destination in the traditional sense - but that's rather the point. The reservoir itself is functional and calm, surrounded by flat Yorkshire countryside that stretches on without drama or pretence.

Walkers get the most from this place. There's a circuit around the water that takes a good hour or so depending on pace, with views across the Wolds if the weather's playing ball. Bird watchers often pitch up here too; herons and various waterfowl are regular visitors. If you're staying at one of the nearby parks - Greengrass, Kingfisher Lakes, or Dacre Lakeside are all within a couple of miles - it's a solid option for a morning ramble when the accommodation itself starts to feel a bit confined.

Don't expect visitor facilities, cafes, or anything touristy. There's no entrance fee because there's no gatehouse, no car park as such, no seasonal closures to worry about. You simply turn up and walk. That freedom matters. On a grey day it can feel a bit bleak; on a decent one it's exactly what you need after a week of caravan life. Not everyone's cup of tea, but if you're the sort who enjoys a quiet waterside walk without the crowds, you'll find it worthwhile.
