Llangynidr Moors Viewpoint

The climb up to Llangynidr Moors takes about twenty minutes from the car park, and it's steep enough to earn your legs a rest once you reach the top. What you get for that effort is a proper panorama across the Brecon Beacons - the kind of view that makes you understand why people hike in Wales. On a clear day you're looking out over ridge after ridge of dark moorland, with Crickhowell sitting small in the valley below.

It's not a complex affair. There's no café, no gift shop, no interpretation boards explaining the geology. Just you, the wind, and the landscape. Families with older kids will find it manageable, though younger ones might struggle with the ascent and lose interest once they've had a look around. Walkers and photography types will get the most from it, especially early morning when the light catches the ridges properly.

Allow roughly an hour if you're not rushing, though you could do it in forty minutes if you're fit. The moors themselves are accessible to wander on, so you can spend as long as you fancy up there. Free, obviously - it's just moorland. Go when the weather's settled. Mist ruins it entirely, and you'll see absolutely nothing.

Stay at Cwmdu Campsite or Pencelli Castle if you're basing yourself locally - both are close enough that Llangynidr makes an easy afternoon excursion. Good option for breaking up a longer Beacons walking trip.
