Mynydd Llangorse

The walk up Mynydd Llangorse rewards you with views across the Brecon Beacons that'll make the climb worthwhile. It's not a technical peak - more a proper hill walk than a scramble - and from the top you get sight lines all the way to the Black Mountains on a clear day. The summit itself is bare moorland, which means there's nowhere to hide from the wind, but that also means nothing obscures the panorama.

This is one for walkers rather than casual strollers. Allow two to three hours for the round trip from Crickhowell, depending on your fitness and how long you linger at the top. The paths are well-trodden but can be boggy after rain, so proper boots matter. Families with older kids will manage it fine; younger ones might find the distance tedious.

There's no facilities at the summit - no café, no shelter, just you and the Powys hills. That's rather the point. Go in the afternoon when the light catches the valleys properly, though avoid late afternoon if you're not confident with navigation in fading light.

If you're based at one of the nearby campsites - Cwmdu is closest at two and a half miles - Mynydd Llangorse makes a solid half-day outing. It pairs well with exploring Crickhowell itself, which has decent enough pubs for a post-walk pint. The hill doesn't demand a full day, so you could easily combine it with Pencelli Castle Caravan Park's proximity to Brecon Beacons walks, or use it as a warm-up before tackling the higher peaks nearby.
