Loch Duich View Point

Pull into the layby near Kyle and you'll understand why folk stop here. Loch Duich spreads out in front of you like someone's spilled liquid silver across the valley floor, with the Five Sisters ridge rising sharp and dramatic on the far side. It's the kind of view that makes you get out of the car even if you only meant to drive through.

You're looking at proper Highland scenery - the water so still on a good day that the mountains double themselves in the reflection. The viewpoint itself is just that: a place to stand, stretch your legs, maybe pull out a camera or a flask. There's no visitor centre, no gift shop, no queue. Just you and the loch and the weight of those hills.

It works best on a clear morning when the light hits the water right, or in that golden stretch before sunset. Midday can feel a bit washed out by comparison. Allow fifteen minutes unless you're the type to sit and stare, which I usually am.

If you're basing yourself at Glenshiel Campsite - which is barely a mile away - this is an easy stop between pitching the tent and heading out proper. The main hiking routes start just along the road, so it's a nice warm-up view before you tackle anything serious. Worth the detour if you're passing, essential if you're staying nearby.
