Lodge Hill

Lodge Hill rises above the Warwickshire countryside between Henley-in-Arden and Stratford, offering views across the Avon valley that stretch for miles on a clear day. It's not dramatic or Alpine - this is gentle English terrain - but it's the kind of walk that rewards you without demanding rock climbing skills or fell-runner fitness.

The ascent takes around 20 minutes from the car park if you're reasonably fit, longer if you dawdle (which you probably will, given how the light changes across the fields). Once up there, you get proper panoramic stuff: woodland, farmland, the distant Cotswolds if you're lucky with visibility. It's popular with dog walkers and families who want a proper walk without the full day commitment.

Locals use it as a quick leg-stretch between visiting Henley-in-Arden's half-timbered high street and pushing on to Stratford. If you're basing yourself at Island Meadow or Wootton Park Glamping Pods - both less than two miles away - this works brilliantly as a morning ramble before breakfast. Greenhill Park Touring Caravan Rally Site is another reasonable distance away and would benefit similarly.

Worth allowing an hour if you're stopping at the top for views, less if you're just after the walk. There's no café or facilities at the summit, so bring water. Free to access, and you won't need directions - the path is well-trodden. On weekends it gets busier, but weekday mornings are peaceful. It's straightforward countryside walking, nothing fancy, but solid value for a couple of hours.
